What is oil Storage Tanks ?
Oil storage tanks are containers used to hold crude oil, refined petroleum products, or other liquids such as water for storage and transportation purposes.
These tanks are crucial components in the oil and gas industry infrastructure, serving several key functions:
Storage: The primary function of oil storage tanks is to store large quantities of oil or petroleum products before they are transported to refineries or distribution points. They allow oil companies and refineries to maintain a strategic reserve and manage fluctuations in supply and demand.
Temporary Storage: Oil storage tanks are also used for temporary storage during periods of maintenance or when production exceeds immediate demand. This flexibility helps in stabilizing the supply chain and ensuring continuous operation.
Types and Sizes: Oil storage tanks come in various types and sizes depending on the specific requirements and location. Common types include above-ground tanks, underground tanks, floating roof tanks, and fixed roof tanks. They can range from small containers to massive structures capable of holding millions of gallons of oil.
Safety and Environmental Considerations: Proper design, construction, and maintenance of oil storage tanks are critical to prevent leaks, spills, and other environmental hazards. Regulations and standards govern their construction and operation to ensure safety and minimize environmental impact.
Distribution and Transportation: Oil stored in these tanks is typically transported via pipelines, ships, or trucks to refineries where it undergoes further processing into usable products like gasoline, diesel, and heating oil.
oil storage tanks are essential components of the oil and gas industry infrastructure, enabling safe and efficient storage, transportation, and distribution of crude oil and petroleum products worldwide.
Above-ground Tanks:
Fixed Roof Tanks: These are the simplest type of above-ground storage tanks with a fixed roof and no internal floating roof. They are commonly used for storing smaller volumes of crude oil and refined products.
Floating Roof Tanks: These tanks have a floating roof that moves up and down with the liquid level, reducing vapor loss. They are suitable for storing large volumes of crude oil and volatile liquids. Floating roof tanks can be external or internal floating roof tanks, where the latter has the floating roof inside the tank.
Underground Tanks:
Underground Storage Tanks (USTs): These tanks are buried underground, primarily used for storing petroleum products like gasoline and diesel at gas stations, industrial facilities, and military bases. USTs are designed to prevent leaks and spills that could contaminate soil and groundwater.
Cone Roof Tanks: These tanks have a conical roof that is attached to the tank shell. They are used for storing liquids with low vapor pressure.
Secondary Containment Tanks:
Double-Walled Tanks: These tanks have an outer shell (secondary containment) surrounding the inner tank, providing an additional layer of protection against leaks and spills.
Design codes for oil storage tanks outline the requirements and standards that govern their design, construction, operation, and maintenance. These codes ensure that oil storage tanks are safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible. Here are some of the key design codes commonly used for oil storage tanks:
API 650 - Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage:
Developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API).
Applies to welded steel tanks for the storage of liquids at atmospheric pressure.
Covers material, design, fabrication, erection, inspection, and testing requirements.
Includes tanks with a vertical axis of revolution, and tanks with a flat bottom.
EN 14015 - Specification for the design and manufacture of site built, vertical, cylindrical, flat-bottomed, above ground, welded, steel tanks for the storage of liquids at ambient temperature and above:
European standard developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
Similar to API 650 but applicable in European countries and regions.
.
BS 2654 - Specification for manufacture of vertical steel welded non-refrigerated storage tanks with butt welded shells for the petroleum industry:
NFPA 30 - Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code:
Developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in the United States.
Provides safeguards for the storage, handling, and use of flammable and combustible liquids.
Materials of Construction:
Tanks are typically constructed from carbon steel, stainless steel, or other materials suitable for the stored product and environmental conditions.
Corrosion-resistant coatings or linings may be applied to protect against corrosion and extend tank life.

About us :
our engineering has built an excellent reputation by designing complex and technically challenging projects for the past 30 years. Its wide portfolio spans across almost all segments of the oil storage tanks design such as: Vertical above ground storage tanks, underground storage tanks, Horizontal storage tanks, fixed roof tanks, External floating roof tanks, Internal floating roof tanks, spherical storage tanks. Column supported cone roof tanks, truss supported cone roof tanks, dome roof tanks, material of constriction, carbon steel, stainless steel , FRP
.
Our design team which uses advanced software such as CODEWARE TANK and AME TANK oil storage tanks designs. our engineering has completed many crude oil storage tank projects , Diesel storage tanks, and Edible Oils tanks design all across the world. our engineering is the first consultant to design very big 1,50,000 m3 crude oil storage tank design in India. This was double duck floating roof tank , 2500 MT steel used. We have also effectively design below tanks, these tanks used in all petroleum industries.

We has worked on many oil storage tanks designs projects in INDIA, USA, Europe and middle eastern countries like (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE).. We use mainly API650, JISB8501, BS2654 and GB50341 as specifications of large oil storage tank respectively. Using CODEWARE TANK software
Where faster design services is required based on client needs. We have successfully completed a six underground storage tanks project in Bangalore consisting of provide design calculations, GA (General Arrangement drawing) & complete shop fabricated drawings. We have also done a three edible oil storage tank design services in Indonesia provide design calculations, GA (General Arrangement drawing) , complete shop fabricated drawings, foundation design, Many times Geotechnical recommendations have been debated and discussed with soil experts to get higher bearing pressure thus resulting in economy in foundations. We also review design calculations and try to arrive at optimum thickness to achieve less usage of steel for a specified grade steel. Wisdom engineering design professionals stay in constant touch with site team to make sure works are performed as per issued final drawings
